  • Created by Kathy White Kennewick School Board Retreat January 7, 2012 Section 1: What transpired Section 2: What was not included Section 1 The meeting was scheduled to begin at 8 AM.  Present were Dawn Adams, Heather Kinzley, Ron Mabry, Brian Books, Dave Bond (Superintendent), and Ron Williamson (Assistant Superintendent, Secondary Education). Ben Messinger was not present at 8:15.  Dave Bond attempted to contact Ben to no avail.  Ron Williamson found a contact number in the Messinger’s PowerSchool account.  Ben was held up by a medical emergency in the family and urged the group to begin without him.   At 8:25, President Dawn Adams opened the meeting and led in the Pledge of Allegiance.  There are ten items on the Agenda.  Two of the items, “Sports Recognition” and “Graduation Attire” were chosen to taken first as they were least complex...

  • Kennewick School Board Meeting         December 14, 2011 Board members present:  Dawn Adams, Heather Kintzley The meeting was called to order at 5:30 PM by President Dawn Adams who led the Pledge of Allegiance.     Kennewick School Board Meeting         December 14, 2011 Board members present:  Dawn Adams, Heather Kintzley The meeting was called to order at 5:30 PM by President Dawn Adams who led the Pledge of Allegiance.   • Kennewick School Board Meeting      October 26, 2011    5:30 PM      Adjourned at 7:22 PM Board members present:  Dawn Adams, Heather Kintzley, Kathy White, Brian Brooks Absent:  Lynn Fielding, Maricarmen Garcia (student) Business: A community member spoke about his concern with unresolved KSD payroll and tax deduction issues Superintendent Dave Bond presented the board with copies of the KSD Annual Report which will be available to the community on November 4 and will be distributed in a Sunday Tri-City Herald Bond noted that Governor Gregoire has notified school districts to prepare for even deeper budget cuts during the current school year Bond reported fall test results for Kindergarten and Measures of Academic Progress (MAP).  See details below. About 1000 Kennewick high school students were tested on the PSAT today KSD’s LaPierre property did not sell due to zoning issues.  KSD will work to resolve the zoning problem and offer the property for sale again. MAP testing is being done in first and second grade for the first time in Kennewick schools.  Scores will be reported at the October 26 board meeting.  Kennewick has dropped DRA testing. Kennewick’s second annual Report to the Community was held at the Administration Center on Friday, September 30. ...

  • Kennewick School Board Meeting      September 28, 2011    5:30 PM       Board members present:  Dawn Adams, Heather Kintzley, Kathy White, Brian Brooks, Maricarmen Garcia                                   Absent:  Lynn Fielding  Business: Policy No. 3560 Students: Student Clubs was considered first because approximately 200 community members were present to witness the board’s review of this issue.  After nearly an hour the board voted to grant equal access to school facilities to non-curricular clubs.  See details below.     Superintendent Dave Bond noted that Governor Gregoire has called a special legislative session to consider a likely state budget shortfall of $1.5 billion.  Schools might face a mid-year budget cut.   • Kennewick School Board Meeting      September 14, 2011    5:30 PM       Southgate Elementary School Board members present:  Dawn Adams, Lynn Fielding, Kathy White, Brian Brooks, Maricarmen Garcia                             Absent:  Heather Kintzley          Business: Many students participated in a silent protest of district student club policy.  See Jacques Von Lunen’s article in the Tri-City Herald for details: http://www.tri-cityherald.com/2011/09/15/1641609/kennewick-school-board-to-revisit.html The board voted unanimously to waive Policy 1430 which does not allow the board to vote twice on the same issue in a calendar year.  This enables the board to reconsider its vote limiting student clubs’ access to district facilities.  Reconsideration will be September 28. School board candidate Uby Creek presented information to the board about some school board candidates electioneering on school campuses during school open houses.  This is in violation of Public Disclosure Commission guidelines.  The board took no action.
