Beware! The legislature is back in Olympia and forces are afoot to hand over the public schools to private interests. These forces will be in disguise as the friends of children, but do not doubt that their actual purpose is to hand your neighborhood school over to big business. They will go under benign labels such as League of Education Voters, Stand for Children, and even PTA. They are heavily funded and will be pushing for charter schools, Teach for America untrained teachers, more testing and other unproven reforms. There will be PTA members saying that they represent our children while visiting with our legislators and speaking in committee hearings in Olympia during the legislative session that started on Monday. They will repeat the phrase Every Child One Voice while pushing the charter school agenda. They will say that a resolution was passed by the PTA Legislative Assembly in support of charter schools and they will stand in support alongside the League of Education Voters (LEV) and Stand for Children (SFC) on this issue.
What I have found out is that the representatives of LEV, SFC and the PTA are all one in the same.

Do local PTAs support the endorsement of charter schools by the WSPTA in Washington state? If you are a PTA member and do not support this takeover of public schools by private interests, complain to your WSPTA organization and bring the issue to the attention of your local PTA group. Speak up before your school loses precious dollars to the organizations that run these failed enterprises.
Teachers, do not be shy about introducing this topic to your school’s PTA. Your job may be at stake.
Parents in Seattle have followed up on the WSPTA debacle. Here is their report: http://seattleducation2010.wordpress.com/2011/12/07/cant-get-a-straight-answer-from-the-washington-state-pta/
