We believe that the teachers of Kennewick are a valuable asset to our community and we, as members of Kennewick School District Citizens, support our teachers. Below is a Statement of Solidarity that we are issuing today to all teachers in the Kennewick Public School system.

Kennewick School District Citizens stands in solidarity with all teachers in Kennewick. We support seniority protections and the teaching profession as a whole. We support the right of teachers to collectively bargain and are outraged at the attacks on collective bargaining in Wisconsin and elsewhere.
We are also outraged by the special interest groups that refer to teachers as “human capital” and who have been pushing for reforms that shortchange our children while pretending to help them. In particular, we are concerned about the nationwide push to use the results of student standardized tests to fire and lay off teachers. We stand with you as you stand up for your profession and our children’s education.
