Kennewick School Board Meeting September 8, 2010
This meeting was held at the new Cottonwood Elementary school and was the dedication of the school.
Doug Mitchell, architect, described the design and construction of the school. It is the first multi-story elementary in Kennewick and has large windows for improving lighting in the building.
Cottonwood principal, Mary Ann Kautzky, introduced the staff and described preparations to open the school.
A new railroad crossing was completed and would be open the next day to shorten the bus routes to school by several miles.
The formal meeting was half an hour followed by a one hour tour of the building and refreshments.
Note:
Among the features of Cottonwood elementary is audio amplification in every classroom. Many teachers and students will benefit from this arrangement which, I understand, will be retrofitted into other buildings over time.
